Everything You Need To Know About Unisa’s Nursing Program

Are you interested in studying nursing because you love helping people? Here is all you need to know about enrolling in a nursing program at the University of South Africa (Unisa).

The University of South Africa, more commonly known as Unisa is an open-distance e-learning university that can help you attain degrees, diplomas, and certificates at the bachelor, master’s, and doctoral levels, that can allow you to reach your dream career!

This university has a Nursing School which offers prospective students an opportunity to receive accredited training in nursing through a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing Science.

The qualification stream is known as Health Services Management and Education.

In order to meet the admission requirements to study nursing at Unisa, it is recommended that candidates must have completed the following subjects in matric: Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Biology.

Candidates who have finished level 4 or literacy level 5 in mathematics, level 4 in physical science, and level 4 in biological science will be considered for admission to the programme.

Students will undergo clinical training in the province’s general and midwifery hospitals, as well as mental hospitals, the community, and community health service centres.

Seeing as Unisa is a distance e-learning university, students will have to choose their modules carefully for their courses so that they have enough time to complete all the work required to pass their modules.

At every registration students will be required to submit their Annual Practising Certificate (issued by the South African Nursing Council (SANC) or Nursing Authority in the relevant country), indicating registration as a general nurse.

  • On the home page of the UNISA website, click on the “Admission” tab
  • Click the “Apply for Admission” tab
  • Select the qualification in which you want to apply

  • Proceed via the online application process
