Young people were enrolled in three phases of the government’s teacher assistant program in substantial numbers. The department has requested that these people show up so that they can receive their Unemployment Insurance Fund.
Since the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) began on December 1, 2020, a sizable number of young people have been placed in its three phases, which the Education Department is proud of.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) reports that the initiative’s participants received a monthly stipend of R4 081.44 while also contributing 1% to the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).
Some of the participants might be eligible to receive their UIF contributions because they are now unemployed.
The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department recently released a statement that clarified:
The submission will be handled by the department itself.
KZN Education has assured former teacher assistants that the process of submitting their information to the Department of Labour will be completed by 31 October 2023.
It is said that the UIF payment can only be claimed if the former teacher assistant is currently unemployed.
Fortunately, during their employment period, the teacher assistants received informal and formal training from the Education Department, providing the youth with an opportunity to gain skills and experience that they will use in their prospective jobs.
Currently, the department has opened applications for its recruits for the fourth phase of the PYEI.
Applications are done online, and should applicants experience some internet issues, they have been advised to try again later, as long as it is within the application timelines.
