As the demand for technical skills in South Africa continues, the Gauteng Department of Education continues to launch schools that have a curriculum that exposes learners to skills that are much needed in growing the country’s economy.
Recently, the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) officially launched a School of Specialisation in the Bronkhorstspruit region, which will be focusing on Mining.
It is said that the launch of the Enkangala Engineering School of Specialisation was led by Gauteng Education Minister Panyaza Lesufi, alongside department officials & traditional leaders from the area.
According to the Education Department, Enkangala is the 21st School of Specialisation in the Gauteng province to be launched and the department has also announced that it has plans to launch many more schools of specialization.

Learners in Schools of Specialisation will be able to either work immediately at industry leading companies, or they will embark on entrepreneurship and start their own businesses.
The Bronkhorstspruit region was an ideal choice for this school, as it is home to a number of coal mines such as the Canyon, Palesa, Sasol, and Exxaro, Petra Diamonds Mine is in Cullinan, which is not far from the school, and there are also quarries that mine stones and sand.
One of the learners at this school is pleased with the opening of the school, as it will also help poor regions develop and progress.
This comes at a time when the country has a high demand for technical occupations such as Engineering, and Boilermaking, just to mention a few, which are also part of the top 100 occupations that are in demand in South Africa.
