bursary is a monetary award made by any educational institution or funding authority to individuals or groups. It is usually awarded to enable a student to attend school, university, or college when they might not be able to, otherwise. Some awards are aimed at encouraging specific groups or individuals into the study.

Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA): Bursaries for 2023

The Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA) is inviting students to apply for bursary funding for the 2023 academic year. IMES will be awarding 2 types of bursaries:

1) Bursaries for non-IMESA members (Bursary Scheme A)
This bursary is for those studying towards a Civil Engineering (or another engineering discipline approved by the Executive Council of IMESA), who without funding, would otherwise not be able to afford to study. It will provide coverage for tuition fees and prescribed books only.

2) Bursaries for dependents of IMESA members (Bursary Scheme B)
This bursary will be awarded to current and future students, who are children of IMESA members, who have been a member for a minimum of 3 years. The bursary covers Civil Engineering (or another engineering discipline approved by the Executive Council of IMESA). It will provide coverage for tuition fees and prescribed books only.

Requirements:

Bursary Scheme A: for non-IMESA members:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying full time towards a Civil Engineering degree qualification (or another engineering discipline approved by the IMESA Executive Council)
  • You must be studying at an accredited and recognized tertiary institute in South Africa
  • You must have completed and passed mid-year exams
  • You must be entering your 2nd year (or later) of study in 2023
  • You must have proven financial need (and be unable to fund your studies)

Bursary Scheme B: for dependents of IMESA members:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full time towards a Civil Engineering degree qualification (or another engineering discipline approved by the IMESA Executive Council)
  • You must have an excellent academic record
  • You must be a dependent of an IMESA member (who has been a member for at least 3 years)
  • You must be a dependent of an IMESA member
