After the State of Emergency was lifted in South Africa, new regulations were introduced for the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant which requires beneficiaries to update their information regularly in order to continue receiving the grant. Here is when you need to do so.
SRD Beneficiaries had to reapply for the R350 grant to ensure that they met the criteria to receive the grant under the new regulations.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has processes in place to determine whether or not to continue disbursing the R350 SRD grant to beneficiaries.
In order for the Agency to do this, beneficiaries are required to reconfirm their existing R350 grant application.
Beneficiaries are required to reconfirm their applications at least once every three months.
This reconfirmation informs Sassa that beneficiaries are still in need and qualify for the grant in terms of the new regulations.

The R350 grant can be applied for through digital channels which include the WhatsApp channel, an online website, and the SASSA Mobile Application (which is still in development and will be introduced gradually during the course of the year).
Sassa introduced a new screening questionnaire to strengthening candidate screening.
This screening involves supplying personal information, such as an ID number, educational, work, and banking information.
The Agency has stated that existing applicants can update their responses to a screening questionnaire that is found on the SRD website, at any point in time, should their circumstances change or correct errors.
This helps Sassa to determine whether a beneficiary still qualifies for the R350 grant.
The Special Covid-19 R350 SRD grant was first introduced in April 2020 as a government intervention to combat the loss of household income that occurred as a result of unemployment caused by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the country’s economy.
