Learners interested in improving their matric results are provided with the opportunity to register for the May/June Second Chance Matric rewrites. The Department of Basic Education urges learners to register before the registration period closes.
The Second Chance Matric Programme was established to provide learners with the support to rewrite the National Senior Certificate (NSC). The programme aims to increase learner retention.
In an effort to help learners achieve the best possible results, the programme offers multimedia material. The material includes:
- Videos
- Study guides
- Audio
While the programme does not cover the entire curriculum, it does focus on the core content of each knowledge area and points out where the learners can earn easy marks. Learners are encouraged to work through the learning material to improve their understanding, identify weak areas and correct their mistakes.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is confident that the material will help the learners prepare well so that they may pass the exams. Learners are urged to cover the remaining aspects of the curriculum using other resources to ensure a high-quality pass.
Benefits of the program include:
- Learners meet the requirements of the NSC and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate.
- Learner retention increases.
- Job opportunities and career pathing increases.
- Learners may receive bursary opportunities to further their studies.
Registrations close on 20 February 2023. Learners may register for the program online or in person.
Online registration is done on the South African e-Services Portal. Learners will need to make a profile in order to register for the program.
In-person registration takes place at any DBE office. Learners are reminded to have their documentation, such as their identity document (ID) and statement of results, with them when registering.
