Now Open To Fetch Your 2023 Matric Rewrite Results

A matric rewrite is done by a person younger than 21 years of age and is for the purpose of improving the marks of two subjects, maximum. If you’ve recently completed a matric rewrite, here is where you can fetch your results.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) will be releasing the results for the May/June Matric exams on 3 August 2023. The Department stated that these exams, which concluded in June, went smoothly with very few interruptions.

To collect the statement of results, the Department of Basic Education has announced that candidates will need to make their way to the venue/centre where they were seated for the exams.

A matric rewrite (known as supplementary exams) allows learners to rewrite the subjects they received poor results in or were unable to complete due to illness or death within the immediate family.

Rewriting matric is a second chance for learners to improve their marks in at least two subjects. Learners can write supplementary exams if they wrote the final exams the previous year.

On 9 May 2023, the first matric rewrite exam was written. A total of 290 682 candidates sat for the examinations which included both National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate candidates.

The National Senior Certificate (NSC) candidates included those who wrote the NSC in 2021 and in previous years but were not able to obtain the necessary requirements of the qualification. Senior Certificate (SC) candidates included adults over the age of 21 who have completed a minimum of Grade 7 or Level 4.

If candidates wrote for the National Senior Certificate qualification, they may register in August (from the 3rd to the 16th) to rewrite in November 2023.

For the Senior Certificate, candidates may register in October 2023 to rewrite next year, in June 2023.

The combination of credits/results is not automatic, therefore candidates need to apply for this service at education district offices.
