Here’s When College Students Will Receive NSFAS Allowances

If you’re a student at the West Coast College Institute of Excellence and you’re funded by NSFAS then you may be interested to know when you can expect to receive your NSFAS allowances.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides tertiary students with monthly allowances as part of the bursary’s funding for disadvantaged South African students who wish to study at public universities or TVET colleges.

The West Coast College Institute of Excellence in the Western Cape has announced when their students can expect to receive the monthly NSFAS allowances.

These allowances include living, college, and private accommodation allowances.

The NSFAS allowances for returning college students pursuing National Certificate Vocational (NC(V)) qualifications will be paid on 15 August 2023.

College students pursuing studies in National Accredited Technical Education Diploma (NATED) N4 – N6 programs can expect NSFAS to pay their allowances on 15 August 2023. This payment will include allowances for July and August.

However, students should note that payment will only be made to returning NATED N5 – N6 students who have passed 3 or 4 subjects and are continuing their studies from the previous semester.

New NATED N4 students who have been approved for NSFAS funding will only receive college or limited private accommodation allowances if they have been successfully registered for residence.

According to a recent announcement by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Dr. Blade Nzimande, students are to use these allowances for educational purposes.

Nzimande said:

Nsfas is not a social grant, but an education grant meant for educational purposes and nothing else, and it must be used only for such purposes.

NSFAS funding covers registration, tuition fees, accommodation, learning materials, transport, and living allowances.
