Here Are The Documents Needed For Gauteng’s School Applications

Gauteng school applications are open for Grade 1 and Grade 8 enrollment for the 2023 academic year. Here are the documents you will need to submit along with the application.

Parents and guardians in the Gauteng province who are looking to enroll their children for Grades 1 and 8 will need to make use of the 2023 Online Application System opened by the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

The department’s online school applications will remain open until Monday 19 August 2023 at midnight. These online applications can be submitted at http://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za/.

Parents have been urged to apply on time so that they can secure a space for their children for the next school year.

Along with their applications, they will need to digitally upload or physically submit certified copies of the following documents:

  • Parent/Guardian ID or Passport
  • Child ID or South African Birth Certificate or Passport
  • Refugee Permit or Asylum Seeker Permit or Permanent Residence Permit or Study Permit.
  • Proof of Home Address
  • Proof of Work Address (Optional, for those applying at a school closer to work)
  • Latest School Report and Clinic Card/Immunisation Report (Grade 1 only)

These documents must be submitted within 7 days of applying. The GDE has stated that documents that have been submitted after the application period’s deadline will be regarded as incomplete applications and will only be placed at open schools between 1 December and 15 December 2023.

Parents must choose to either upload or submit the documents and cannot do both.

It is important that parents ensure that the details they enter on the system match the information on the documents that they upload or submit.
