Constantly Changing Bank Details Could Delay SRD Grant Payments

Some Social  Relief of Distress (SRD) grant clients receives their funds through their bank accounts. However, this payment method has resulted in some applicants facing challenges.

The Social  Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was introduced in 2020, under the administration of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).

Since then, Sassa has come under fire due to delays in payments, however, the government agency has stressed the importance of SRD grant clients using the correct banking details when applying for the grant.

In a statement, Sassa said:

Clients are urged not to repeatedly change their bank details on the SRD website, as the account will have to be verified each time a change is made, which may delay payment for such clients.

 According to this statement, Sassa has also recommended that clients open their own bank accounts with an institution of their choice as it will assist them to take ownership of their funds and collection.

According to Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu, it makes no difference whether financial institution SRD grant recipients choose to access and receive their grants from because there are no bank fees associated with withdrawals.

Customers should either check their payment on the SRD website before going to the various retail pay locations, including bank ATMs, or they should wait for an SMS that will let them know when to withdraw the money.
