The bursary for Doctoral research covers tuition fees for a maximum of 4 years on the application received for each year. The stipulated budget for research funds totals to R80 000, which is the maximum amount that can be awarded for research activities for a duration of study per qualification.

Upon receipt of an application each year, the scholarship for doctoral study via experimental research will pay tuition costs for a maximum of 4 years. The maximum amount that can be allocated for research grants per qualification is R120,000 (including all years of research expenditure).

If the projected budget would exceed the annual limit, an application for funding and a proposed budget would need to be made every year. Existing bursary holders will be given preference, especially those who are nearly finished.

The student will receive a bursary contract and a reimbursement form after their bursary application is approved. To request research funding from the Division of Student Funding, utilize the return form. Without submitting a fully completed refund request, no money will be refunded. Additionally, the study funds must never be used for other costs that they weren’t intended for, such as lodging or meals.
